This has got to be one of my favourite locations I have shot to date! Who knew a tyre yard could be so much fun! Having took these photos a few weeks back (before I got my hair cut!), my sister Kassandra and good friend Lyndell happened to wonder upon this urban wonderland. The sea of old tyres, hints of barbed wired and rustic details sure did get us excited to be creative and play around. When it comes to outfit posts, I like to style the post to a theme and ensure this is portrayed in the choice of location, colours, camera angles etc. I think it makes a standard outfit post that much more appealing (which I hope you agree) and in a way presents itself as a mini-look book. Come on, why don't you tell me?! ....Do you prefer styled or casual streetstyle shots? Would love to get your feedback.

I would describe this look as "pirate-meets-boho". As a lover of collared shirts, this candy-striped sheer number from August Street offers just a little bit more with it's mullet hem and maroon stripes. Here I have cinched it around the waist with one of my favourite vintage belts and teamed it up with a bodycon mini from Market HQ. The mix of dark berry colours livens up the other neutral pieces and colourful Aztec accessories. These Castro Boots from Rubi Shoes are the perfect everyday boot and a great transeasonal pick to take you into the colder months. Did I mention they are incredibly comfy too?! I have already been thinking of winter to tell you the truth, and even purchased these black ankle boots by Vagabond the other day! BLOG FEATURE: NUTCASE FASHION

I love shopping on Etsy and discovering new, one-of-kind pieces that you won't find in-store. One of my favourite things to shop for is jewellery and without a fail, there is an amazing range of independent designers offering refreshing designs over at Etsy.

For this special blog feature, I am very pleased to introduce to you a certain jewellery brand I have fallen head-over-heels for (thanks to a lovely recommendation by Brooke), which is Nutcase Fashion by Connie Lo. Black, wet-look Kit Skinnies by Bardot, staple black tee by Dotti and these sassy Eve stilettos by Rubi Shoes makes for an effortless chic, sexy look. I am a sucker for all-black - I think it makes me feel somewhat mature and classy though rebellious at the same time, a kind of "I'm too cool for school" attitude.

I have been wearing quite of a lot of gold lately, so the mix of retro resin, rose and gold chains is a nice compliment to other gold accessories without being too over the top. The hot pink and black triangles are the perfect amount of modern tribal/Atzec goodness.

AUGUST STREET - 'NAVAJO DREAMING'

When coming across new fashion designers and labels, usually it is either a hit or miss as to what makes your "lust label list". One may look for characteristics that reflect their personal fashion style, see whether the pieces are wearable and if they will be the ideal addition to their wardrobe. I can confidently say Australian fashion label August Street no doubt makes my list, ticking all the boxes for me! From their distinctive eclectic details to affordable price range, Rachel Rutt stars as their model muse in their Winter 2012 collection Navajo Dreaming. As most of you already know, I have a weak spot for native/ethnic influences so I was overly excited to see their latest collection referencing the Native Indian, not to mention running into 'the' Rachel Rutt herself pre-shoot looking effortlessly cool in her worn-in Chuck Taylors. The lovely team at August Street and very talented head designer Ainsley Hansen invited me to their showroom to get a first-hand glimpse at the collection. Here you will see details like print blocking, paneled textures, fringing, pops of neon accents and attention to modern tailoring, all offering an innovative, refreshing take on the widely popular native trend.

RUCHED AGATE

Many have noticed I haven't been blogging as much and that's because I've literally got a lot going on in my life lately - full-time job, freelancing, having a social life, vegging out and watching Sex and The City re-runs etc. I have always regarded Your Only Black Swan as a creative outlet from my full-time profession, however at this point of time... I can honestly say, life is swell, in which I have acquired 'other ways' for creative release. This does not mean I will not be blogging anymore... but I will blog only because I want to, not because I feel obliged too - which is what I have lived by during the 2 years of running Your Only Black Swan. If there is one thing I have learned from having a blog - it is your readers know when you are being true to yourself and they will pick up on how honest your intent is behind each post. Blogging is about sharing your personality, and if this computer screen wasn't in the way from separating me and you - I would still be the 100% me on and off line. And will continue to do so...

So here I present this post, 'RUCHED AGATE', featuring two of my favourite pieces at the moment that surprisingly go very well together! Hence the post-title, this ruched cross-over skirt is by Beginning Boutique and the statement agate slice cuff is a stunning creation by Australian jewellery designer Samantha Wills. The ruched skirt is a perfect day-to-night piece, giving a different spin to the average body-con mini. I love the interesting angled cut and high waist. Being a lover of raw gemstones, I could not be more happier with this Samantha Wills cuff. Whenever I wear it I find myself staring at the beautiful bands nature has created - raw natural beauty at it's best!

During the shoot, I could not help but think this outfit was an interpretation of 'modern day Greece' due to the combination of statement gold jewellery pieces, split-sleeves, gathers and ruching. The loose, draping top and clever sculpting of the skirt is a great balance in volume with the mustard clutch complimenting the warm red of the top and agate slice. If I were wearing stiletto heels this look would emulate feminine chic, though I feel the inclusion of ankle boots toughen the look, making it more a high-street "let's go shopping then afterwards grab a cocktail" ensemble.

For those who don't know, the agate stone is a "Power Stone" that attracts strength and safeguards the wearers from deception or foul play. Agate is also sacred to the Greek god of healing Aesclepius and has long been associated with healing and protection. Various shades and colours of agate were believed to have different properties: red agate to cure insect bites and stings, green to cure eye infections, grey to treat throat infections and black or striped agate to protect women from disease. I guess my "modern day Greece" theme is a perfect link here don't you think!?

Earlier this month, I was invited to attend a session at the Sportsgirl's Style Me Studio in Pitt Street with Head Stylist, Monica Morales. If you like to play dress up or are seeking certain style advice, Style Me Studio offers the ultimate personal styling experience, specially tailored to assist you in updating your wardrobe or re-discovering your fashion personality.

Prior my appointment, Monica asked me a few questions about my personal style, style icons and if there was any particular trends at Sportsgirl I'd like to try out and experiment with. Here is what I shared with Monica so she could get an understanding of what I would like to get out from my Style Me Studio session:

M) What would you describe your style as?

L) My style is very eclectic, vintage-inspired mixing quality basics with interesting detailed pieces and textures. I love playing with prints and native/ethnic influences. My biggest lust at the moment would have to be anything collared and statement necklaces for that extra wow factor.

M) Are there any particular trends or things in Sportsgirl you would like to try?

L) I would love to experiment with sequins and see how I can incorporate them in everyday wear. I would also like to wear more maxi skirts/dresses for the summer.

M) Do you have any style icons?

L) Alexa Chung, Chloë Sevigny and Kate Bosworth would have to be my style icons. I love their quirky spins on classic pieces as well as their eye for detail. I am a big fan of Alexa's school girl meets tom-boy look.

Whilst answering these questions, I could not help but to get excited of what Monica would have in store for me. Meeting her on the day was no doubt a pleasure in itself and let me tell you, it was certainly one productive hour with 5 outfit combinations to try out! I really did not know what to expect to come off the rack, but my eyes continually lit up as she pulled together the pieces and adorned me with accessories.

Here is the first look Monica styled for me/

Leather red shorts, loose white shirt, vintage stripy button-up dress worn as a throw-over, faux feather stole, rose gold necklace, large white clutch and duo-tone fluro pink and black stilettos.

I immediately fell in love with this combination, and thought this was something Carrie Bradshaw would wear being high street yet quirky and fashion-forward at the same time. The orange feathered stole is unexpected though ties in nicely with the colour-popping stilletos. The vintage stripy unbuttoned dress was another piece I was lusting over. All-in-all, the perfect amount of eclectic meets chic.

Here is Monica and myself outside Sportsgirl amongst the crazy Pitt Street Mall action.

I love everything that she is wearing - the metallic tee, printed harem pants, tribal necklace and fluro yellow nails! It was so intriguing getting to know more about what she does and what inspires her to put together such unpredictable ensembles. I'm sure most of us who enjoys playing with fashion would love to be doing it for a living. At Sportsgirl, you can actually be mentored by the head stylists as part of your job. How great is that!

The Style Me Studio itself is located within the store, though stylised in such a way that you are almost transported to another place and time. The current theme for the studio was 'Mexico' will the walls covered with deep fuschia wallpaper, Frida Karhlo, skulls, The Day of the Dead and bright wall hangings and sombreros. The space gets updated regularly, to keep the environment dynamic and constantly inspiring.

Here is Monica's second look she styled for me/

Sleeveless button-up blouse with embellished collar, gold plate necklace, yellow pleated skirt with stripy belt, bangles, tribal clutch, cat eye sunglasses and the same duo-tone black and fluro pink stilletos.

With my fascination for collars and tribal influences, this ensemble successfully combined the two but in a very preppy, feminine way. Who would of thought that was possible! The tribal clutch and colour-blocking of the yellow and fluro pink is a perfect nod to Stockholm Streetstyle fashion. Shout out if you agree the names Blair Waldorf and Kate Bosworth are written all over this combination! Note to self: must get these insane cat eye sunglasses!

Next up, the 3rd outfit Monica styled for me/

Miss Unkon for Sportsgirl purple frilled shorts, red sleeveless collared blouse, black 3/4 blazer, embellished collar necklace, yellow snakeskin belt, woven clutch, bangles and the same duo-tone black and fluro pink stillettos.

I could not contain myself when Monica was putting this outfit together. It was the "ultimate Lauren outfit" in my eyes. It's amazing to think someone can really interpret your personality and communicate it visually through fashion. The jewel embellished collar necklace is a great accessory, taking an outfit from day-to-night. The colour-blocking of red and light purple is broken up with a hint of yellow snakeskin, a slightly sexy texture to combat the very girly cut of the shorts. Once again the collared shirt is back though layered with soft material blazer, creating a casually cool look that isn't so structured. As we progressed from look-to-look, we didn't find the need to change shoes as these duo-tone stilettos just simply went well with everything!

In mixing things up, Monica styled a more fun, sparkly number for the 4th look/

vintage evening shoulder pad dress, silver plate necklace, woven clutch, wayfarer sunglasses, retro digital watch and the same duo-tone stilletoes in flesh and fluro yellow.

You cannot have a styling session without properly playing dress-ups can you!? This look was a bit more avant-garde and an a chance to step outside of the box. The distinctive shape of the vintage 80's evening dress was a great opportunity to experiment with, using a mix of accessories to balance the strong shoulder pads. The retro digital watch adds a nostalgic spin on the look while the stiletto heels in a flesh and fluro yellow version gives a modern, fresh touch.

The 5th and final lookMonica styled for me was/

Crochet lace jumpsuit, sleeveless sheer collared blouse, aviator, silver plate necklace and cuff, fluro pink belt and retro digital watch and same duo-tone flesh and fluro yellow stilletos.

I call this look "Sporty Lux" or "Desert Chic" as images of slick wet hair, running tracks and helicopters hovering over cracked salt lakes conjured up as soon as Monica put on the finishing touches. (No joke!) I have always associated crochet with beachside, bohemian looks, nothing as sharp and chic as this combination here. The sheer shirt and straight angles toughen up the pretty jumpsuit whilst the aviator shades lends a "this means business" attitude. With the understated colour palette, the silver and fluro accents really packs a punch!

During my time spent in Sportsgirl, I also got to meet Basilia of Little Lady Love who happens to be another Style Me Studio stylist at the Pitt Street store. It was lovely to finally meet her and talk more about the Style Me Studio and her experience of learning and working with Monica.

It was incredible to think how much we went through in a hour, though one thing I learned is to be more adventurous and daring with my outfits by not only mixing prints but also different cuts as well. Another piece of style advice is that 1 pair of statement shoes can go a very long way and in fact be the vital piece in finishing off a look. Whenever I can't find something to wear or struggle to put a look together, I will go back to this post and revisit the outfit combinations Monica has styled. If I'm still lacking inspiration, perhaps another Style Me Studio session would do the trick! ;)

BERRY SUMMER

I have always wanted to incorporate a bright pair of statement shoes into my everyday wear without looking too contrived. These Josie flatforms from Rubi effortlessly does the job thanks to their rich, berry colour and understated flatform sole. You may have seen them here on the blog in a flesh colour, but I could not pass on getting a second pair which has far become a great accent to any summer ensemble. This white, sleeveless blouse from Pinkstitch has also been on high rotation along with my super large tribal bag I picked up from Thailand almost a year ago. Seriously, I regard it as my Mary Poppin's bag since you can fit almost anything in it! hehe

I apologise for the pause in posts, things have been quite hectic lately, honestly any spare time I have I've been going out and or treating myself to some quality downtime. My mentality has always been work hard and play harder, where for the most of times... I believe it's only your own smile that counts at the end of the day. Last weekend I was lucky to visit the Breakfast Point Country Club (where these photos were taken) and got to enjoy the gorgeous weather and some R&R; the pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sunbathing of course. Sometimes you just gotta drop everything and enjoy life. Either you "live to work or work to live".... I choose the latter.

MISS PEWTER

My new found obsession to welcome the new year is PEWTER. The obsession first started ever since these Pewter MARS Loafers by asos arrived on my doorstep. I've suddenly disregarded all my gold jewellery and only opted to wear my silver/metallic pieces instead. Has this ever happened to you? Stopped wearing a certain colour/finish because it didn't go with your current favourite item/trend?...

This pewter necklace I picked up a life time ago has also become another culprit towards my obsession. Perfectly matching with my pewter Penny loafers, both of them are now one of my favourite combos to wear lately. As you know I like to mix things up, so a little bit of neon arm candy wouldn't hurt would it? For as I know, arm candy is one of my other obsessions along with egg yolk, Listerine strips and watching SATC. Oh, and painting my nails this shimmery pewter finish thanks to Rubi!

Whenever you think of loafers, some may think of senior clothing and old "nanna shoes". However with the whole trend of loafers/slip-ons hitting the runways back in 2011, designers have added daring, more modern touches like spikes, studding, fur and the use of different materials. I can't help myself but to channel my inner city chic every time I slip on these pewter fellas. Easy as that, no fuss, no laces these Penny Loafers are an instant update to any summer or winter wardrobe. Personally, I can't wait to wear them in winter paired up with coloured socks and turned up chinos. Yes please!

Hope you all had a pleasant weekend! Thanks to the amazing weather here in Sydney, I finally donned on a bikini and headed to the Breakfast Point Country Club for a little R&R where inevitably another obsession of mine was formed - the steam room! Bye bye impurities! If you can handle the heat, it's quicker than a sauna.

Poodle and Pals

I can't believe how fast the first week of 2012 has gone! I won't be surprised if the rest of the year moves fast like it is already.

For New Year's Eve, I spent it in Bondi at the Bucklers Canteen (previously called The Wreck) located right across from Bondi Beach. Great bar, good tunes, killer weather and even better company! I couldn't have asked for more. Normally I don't get the chance to take proper outfit shots before I go out on the town, though being the last day of the year I managed to squeeze in some happy snaps before it got all messy. The little puppy poodle you see there is named Alfie and is oh so adorable. Belonged to my friend Jessica, little Alfie would not leave our sides and would start sooking if we didn't give him attention. Only 8 weeks old, he is by far still a baby and would curl up next to you seeking warmth, if not a place to sit his little bottom. As most of you know, I am no doubt a 'cat person' though a puppy poodle as cute as Alfie will make me go weak at the knees and start speaking baby talk like it was my very own Chelsea. (my darling kitty)

To end 2011 with a bang and of course with style - I decided to dress in a limited colour palette, though one that embodies summer. Having a darker complexion, I wore what I felt works best with my skin tone - white! To say this outfit was thrown on in a mad rush out the door, it somehow all pulled together with the hint of neon yellow and gold accessories. These shorts are by August Street and exude the right amount of flirty, summer fun and the gold plate necklace is by Sportsgirl which I have been wearing non-stop. Along with this cute, loose knit singlet by Supre which I'm sure will be a summer favourite over bandeau bras and bikinis.

If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing things you love. Stop over analysing, Life Is Simple. All emotions are beautiful. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Open your mind, arms and heart to new things and people, we are united in our differences. Ask the next person you see what their passion is, and share your inspiring dream with them. Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself. Some opportunities only come once, seize them. Life is about the people you meet, and the things you create with them so go out and start creating. Life Is Short. Live your dream and share your passion.

I'm not all for New Year's resolutions. I find myself setting goals throughout the year not only when the calendar year is out. Though, I can understand why the idea of a 'new year' can be a strong motive to start a new chapter in 'this book called life', reflect on the changes we want or need to make and to wipe the slate clean in order to so. During the hype surrounding New Year's Eve, I came across this confronting yet amazing piece of writing that in all honestly, hit home for me – The Holstee Manifesto. It literally blew all my personal fears and insecurities right out of the water as soon as I reached the final sentence (or at least I hope so during those few seconds!) I know each of us have our own dreams and goals embedded in the back of our heads or in our hearts, but sometimes we can lose our drive and steer off track from achieving them. The Holstee Manifesto can be applicable to everyone and serve as a reminder of what is important in life, regardless of what is written on your list of New Year's resolution. Perhaps so, this piece of writing may replace your list all together. I've been told before to do the things you love and enjoy and everything will come to you naturally – success, love, happiness. Having learned the importance of this in the past year, this is something I will strive to uphold in 2012. COLLAR CORAL

Some of you may have seen me wear this outfit before at the BWA Christmas Blogger Party, though I thought I'd share with you proper photos being one of my most favourite eclectic ensembles. I love mixing things up with different textures and prints, creating looks that are a bit edgy whilst still letting my personality shine through.

What first caught my eye with this silver detachable collar, is that it reminded me of both the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz and Cher from teenybopper classic Clueless. Despite they are very different movies, I have a feeling both their costume designers were onto something. With the popular comeback of the collar lately, one may not know the design of the collar made it's mark all the back in the 1300's with over 50 styles of collars to hit the fashion scene/history pages since. Both the collar and pleated skirt are angular in design, so I have broken up the sharp lines with this textured lace number from Sportsgirl. I love the bright coral shade and how it packs a punch against the teal and violet. To add to this 1990's school girl silhouette, I have worn these duo-tone Serena heels from Rubi lengthening the legs with it's chunky platform heel. I should really change the blog post title to "A modern day Cher", but whatever! ;)

Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone! I hope you all had a pleasant day spent with your nearest and dearest. I've got to admit I was most excited about the food and time-off more than anything. Mother Nature even treated us Sydney-siders to lots of sunshine, granting me the opportunity to wear this collared sundress by Aussie label August Street.

August Street is the creation of Australian fashion designer Maryanne Petsinis and her design team. Each garment offers quality fabric, an edgy silhouette and elements of intricate detailing. This floral number is actually part of their latest summer collection, where I picked it up for only $10 at their recent sample sale. (yes $10, crazy!!!) With their head office located right next door to my work, you could say August Street has become my new favourite Aussie label. Their designs are refreshing and no doubt wearable, plus their face at the moment is one of my all-time favourite models - Rachel Rutt!

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen my tweets about my serendipitous double run-in with Rachel herself. Having met her for the first time back at the Alex Perry show for 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty, she was still her uber cool self and I was indeed pleased to know she remembered me from that evening. (fanatic much?) If this is the first time you've heard of August Street, head over to their Facebook/Twitter pages for updates - their winter collection is looking amazing and I can't wait to see it come out.

To further accompany this little story of mine, here is a mini mood board detailing the inspiration behind this outfit. Flora, macrame, Hawaii, hibiscuses and emerald green. Think resort living, good ol' R&R, nanna-naps and enjoying a good read; all-in-all a good break to recharge your batteries for the new year ahead.

Velvet - I have always been a fan. Some may shudder at the sight or touch of velvet, though I believe it can work wonders, when used in small doses that is.

Being a velvet fanatic, I have got to say I am quite pleased with my existing velvet collection, however I was missing one must-have piece; the classic velvet blazer. When General Pants had their massive online sale months ago, I could not pass on this indigo/violet number by Alice In The Eve. It's flattering cut and ruched 3/4 sleeves adds a modern touch, instantly giving that extra pizazz to any casual ensemble. It is the ideal 'day-to-night' wardrobe piece, with it's rich midnight texture shimmering in the light. Being one of my favourite pieces of outerwear, I could not help but to dress like Chuck Bass every time I wear it and match it with my purple booties. Guilty again!

Next velvet goodies to add to my collection would have to be velvet loafers!

As part of my guest blog post, I wanted to share with you my ultimate festival outfit that I've styled here.

Wearing: vintage Levi’s cut-offs from Glebe Markets, crochet top by Sgt. Sookie, bandeau bra by Cotton On Body, kimono by Carine Long for Cotton On, vintage leather belt, Dr. Martens, sling bag by Colette, Aztec cuff by Sportsgirl and Ray-Ban Clubmasters.  

Festival fashion is meant to be fun and most of all, comfortable. For my ultimate festival outfit, I have chosen to wear my good ol’ trusty Levi cut-offs, which are by far my most comfortable pair of shorts which don’t reveal too much of my behind. Many think dressing for a festival means minimal clothing eg. bikinis, one-pieces, low cut singlets or even bare chests (yes, that right boys). Though this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, here I’ve chosen to wear a cropped crochet top with a bandeau bra underneath. The kimono style pull-over is long in length, offering a decent balance of skin and a fleeting effect when you walk. Let’s just say, the colourful print can easily be spotted in a crowd. My chosen festival footwear has always been a closed shoe – who wants to be stepped on while in the mosh or have dirty unattractive feet all day? My Dr. Martens have been my saviour thanks to their heavy duty caps and ability to tackle any mud puddles. Must-have accessories include a sling bag and good pair of sunnies.

Being a fan of all things native, accessorising has always been a lot of fun - especially for a music festival.This super-sized Sea Green Castaway Ring features a Chrysoprase gemstone and plated silver with small Aztec markings; a giveaway that I won from Spell and the Gypsy a while ago. The beautiful aqua colour is so refreshing, reminding me of tropical waters and bubblegum icecream. Not only does it bring out the colours from the kimono, but teams up perfectly with this new Aztec cuff from Sportgirl. Seriously, how cute is it!

What music festival or event do you have coming up? I'm really considering saving this outfit for Big Day Out 2012 (talk about being prepared! hehe) - is anyone else going? I'm looking forward to seeing Kanye West, Boy and Bear, The Jezabels (for the fourth time), Foster The People, Best Coast and many more! So many highlights, I hope I can get around to watching all of them perform. For the meantime, I will be crossing off the days in my diary and getting my festival fix from SMFI. Easy!

I hope you are all having a good week. Last night I watched Snakadaktal perform live at GoodGod Small Club and they were brilliant. I also fell in love with one of their supporting acts called Fishing. If you like instrumental pop fueled by skittering beats, organic sounds, synths and computer game soundtracks - you'd never thought fishing would sound like this. Hooray for new tunes!

What a week it's been. With the festive season pretty much in full swing, a lot has been happening and I'm sure most of you would agree! These street snaps were taken mid last week hopefully giving you an idea of what I wear during the working week. You wouldn't think myself and other Sydney-siders were experiencing summer but instead winter by what I'm wearing. Lately the weather has been cold, rainy and windy, I had to bust out my winter gear and throw on this Pashmina scarf I bought all the way from Thailand to keep me warm. I'm hoping Mother Nature would pull herself together and grant us some much needed sunshine and blue skies for more opportunities to wear pretty summer dresses and sandals. Now that would be wonderful wouldn't it?!

Red, red wine... goes to my head. Make's me forget that I... Still need you so.

Anyone remember this song from UB40? I recall it was always the final song played during house parties - an audio nightcap to be exact. Being a red wine (Merlot) lover myself, these Hallie Wedges from Rubi exude all qualities of a full glass of red; understated body (wedge shape), mellow softness (faux suede) and rich in colour (if it isn't obvious already). Normally wedges dress down an outfit if you don't want the full impact of a stiletto heel, though the rich red wine colour and thin ankle strap carry a different type of glam similar to the 1950s. These palazzo pants are a vintage piece from my mother's wardrobe, both ultra comfy and very roomy! Roomy enough that the black razor back top I'm wearing is indeed the Staple High Knit Dress available at Beginning Boutique. Originally I planned on wearing the dress and wedges together, never knowing a pair of pleated, wide leg pants would make all the difference. I understand the palazzo trend isn't for everyone, but I would like to know your thoughts? Do you think they are chic or should not be worn in public along with your pyjamas?

The word 'palazzo' is Italian derived from the Latin palatium 'palace', meaning 'a large splendid residence or public building, such as a palace or museum'. Interesting!

THE RUBI SHOES PROJECT LAUNCH - FLINDERS LANE, MELBOURNE

There are moments in life when you have to pinch yourself to make sure you're not living a dream - this moment was one of them.

In accompanying the launch of Rubi Shoes' latest collection and lookbook, The Rubi Project concept store was created nestled in Melbourne's bustling laneway - Flinders Lane. Here myself, Mollie and Margaret were flown down from Sydney to attend the event, along with other Melbournian bloggers/media whom also joined in the celebration. I remember experiencing a bundle of emotions and excitement upon my arrival as only days before the launch, we were informed our images were to be featured on the store windows. Our blog URLs would also be included as well as QR codes in which passers-by could scan and be directed to each of our blogs. Seeing myself almost life-size in the store window was a surreal experience in itself, it's crazy to think the pop-up store will be around for another 6 months for the public to visit.

The Rubi Project is no doubt a treat to the senses, offering a refreshing new look with it's bright atmosphere and tasteful visual merchandising. All white decor, French antique styled draws and scattered arm stands proved a new direction from existing Rubi stores many of us are familiar with. Each corner of the store was styled to a distinct theme and transitioned nicely from coloured suede-like heels/wedges, to boho-inspired heels, a multitude of sandals to funky sneakers and indie grunge boots for the cooler months to come. My eyes could not help but to light up at the sight of a much bolder, daring range of shoes and the more-than-generous candybar centred in the store. Finally meeting the Rubi team was a pleasure in itself, you could not commend enough how great of a job they have done. BLOGGER STYLE [WITH] RUBI SHOES - LOOK #4

So here is the fourth and final look I styled with Rubi Shoes - a bohemian, prairie-inspired look featuring the Gretel Wedge and hints of turquoise. Super comfortable these two-tone wedges can be worn on their own or teamed up with a cute pair of socks for an even "girlier" look if you are partial to that trend. Colourful Navajo print, neons and electric blue accents! For those who are partial to blue things like the male Satin Bowerbird that collects blue items to decorate his bower, this post is for you! An accent colour can go a long way and with the extensive range of solid coloured accessories at Rubi, you'll be asking yourself what colour of the rainbow you'll be sporting next. One of my favourite accessories is the wrap watch - I'm a sucker for functional wrist-wear. BLOGGER STYLE [WITH] RUBI SHOES - LOOK #2

I've always liked studs, leopard print and stripes. A never-fail combination that doesn't seem to date... or does it? Despite anything, this has definitely got to be one of my favourite outfits I have styled and was sure a lot of fun shooting. Many say you dress depending on how you feel - for me, the 'rocker chic' look is so much fun to play with and I guess for it's rebellious nature. The studded denim vest was a DIY project I completed a while ago and has earned prime position in my wardrobe since. You can catch my step-by-step guide on how to make the vest here (beware, studding is addictive!) Props to the location where I have enjoyed shooting in the past and the super-sized tyres - for a moment I was tempted to hop inside one of the tyres and be rolled around like Scout from To Kill A Mockingbird . Not quite a "rebellious" thing to do, but for a young child to act on it first I think so!

The 'rocker chic' look is one you can easily adapt and add your own personal touches. Thanks to Rubi, you can put your own spin to the widely embraced trend. Here I went for a more feminine style, even throwing in a floral motif scarf to soften the look. These Stefani Wedge Boots are by far the most comfortable pair of booties I've worn to date. 'The Rubi Girl' is all about being fashion forward, though loves to have with fashion and make each look her own. Sometimes, things are better when they're short and sweet - a cute sticky note, bus ride, birthday card message... oh and a new haircut! Since I first cut my hair short, I found myself visiting the hairdressers more often which I see as I good thing.. no more split ends! The post-feeling of freshly cut hair is somewhat like a mini-makeover I encounter every month. With summer approaching I don't have to worry about tying my hair up, though cute hair clips like these acetate snaps from Mimco are great everyday accessories. When I was younger, I used to wear so many different coloured snap clips it was quite an overkill, so this multi-coloured pair is just perfect!

This sun dress was a $10 bargain I picked up last summer, I adore the cut of it and it's small cap sleeves and criss-cross back. Light and airy, it is probably one of my most "girliest" dresses I own and not to mentioned one of my shortest!

As mentioned in my previous post, I will be including a mini mood board detailing what inspired me behind each outfit. Here - feminine eyelet embroidery, flatforms, short haired beauties like Alexa Chung and cat eye sunglasses all made a visual impact to this post.

Here is my new hip bag from Mimco. Normally I carry a large bag with everything under the sun in it, so a smaller, no-fuss bag like this one is great! It's the right size to store all your bare essentials ie phone, money, lip gloss. The navy leather is soft and buttery and I can't help but to stroke it and sniff it. Come on, let's be honest! Who else likes the smell of leather?... I know I am not alone here hehe

These flesh coloured wedges from Rubi are super comfortable adding height without the form of a stilleto heel. Being flesh in colour, they also create the illusion of a longer leg. Also available in a hot berry pink colour, I think I might just get a second pair sooner or later.

What a week it's been! It's amazing how fast time flies by! To think there are only 5 more weeks till Christmas makes it even more hard to grasp. So much has happened and changed in 2011, I really don't want to dwell on the could of's and what if's, but instead count my blessings and live each day with good intent. A simple yet strategic thought like that can get you through almost any situation and it's one that instantly resets your whole perspective on things. Try it! ... "count your blessings".

On a different note, I am very much looking forward to a relaxing, care-free weekend. The forecast tomorrow is suppose to be a lovely 30 degrees, let's hope I'm near water to cool down. I have been enjoying dressing for hot days and have continued to add in bright colours or interesting textures to my outfits. Summer fashion for me must include a headscarf at one point or another. Here is one of my favourites that I purchased from Sportsgirl a couple of summers ago - the mix of orchid, peach and yellow remind me of Silver's style from 90201, first season. Do you agree?

Another interesting texture I have been wearing recently is this shimmery metallic shirt from Ezzentric Topz Vintage. I have bought from Twee before and adore all the of blouses she sources. Unique and individual in every way, the texture and shimmer of the fabric is somewhat reminiscent of 70's glam and poolside luxury. Contrasted by a fluro yellow and marley grey striped tank by Cotton On, this outfit is a comfort-chic meets all-round traveler. Check out my mini inspiration-mash-up below.

These clubmasters are actually vintage Police and belonged to my mum when she was younger. I love how fashion is one continuous cycle. Sometimes it can be hard letting go of old clothes and unworn pieces. There's always a part of me that says "Hold on, this may come back in fashion!" and surprisingly enough, they do! (Note to self: must visit Ikea and sort out my wardrobe space pronto)

The day we took these photos there was a breeze in the air and created such a whimsical backdrop of swaying branches and greenery. Isn't this bridge walkway location amazing or what?

Pedestrian TV x Absolut Mode Launch Party

Last Wednesday night, fellow blogger Aprilia from Aprilia Love and I attended the Pedestrian TV x Absolut Mode launch party held at Hugos in King Cross. To celebrate the launch of the limited edition "Absolut Mode Edition" bottle, Pedestrian TV were in this case the "hosts of the mostest" and no doubt knew how to throw a party in it's honour. The weather was extra humid and though the crowd at Hugos wasn't at the average capacity of a Sunday night, each Absolute Mode drink was certainly more refreshing than the last. During the night, Aprilia and I were lucky to meet a handful of influential bloggers and a few whom we also shared the title of Pedestrian TV Blogster Awards Nominee with. Bloggers include Hayley from Fashion Hayley, Sara from Harper and Harley, Nicole from Gary Pepper Vintage, Jess from Tuula Vintage and Zanita from Zanita Zanita who was working the decks and got us all dancing! Model, photographer and DJ...? Zanita is unquestionably the "Jill Of All Trades".

I have always been a fan of short shorts, suede and cute lace up/eyelet details, so much that during the moment my eyes laid upon these babies two words popped into my mind - hot dang!! These sunburnt brick red suede shorts are by Ladakh and exclusively available at theiconic.com.au The lace up details on the side remind of something a hippie goddess of the Woodstock era would wear. Here I have showcased the shorts in full view teamed up with a cropped crochet top from Sgt. Sookie. Cropped tops are the best for summer and compliment anything high waisted whilst the addition of a lavender lace bandeau gives another element of texture and colour to the outfit.

One thing I can’t ignore is that I have been wearing more gold recently thanks to my new Marc Jacobs chronograph watch. Layered with colourful wrist bands and my DIY bracelets, it was part of my farewell present from my previous role and one that I will cherish forever. A classic design with a modern touch of white detailing on the face - I regard it as my “never fail/instant glam” watch! Hoorah! I have also made a habit of wearing an assortment of rings from Colette whenever I wear gold. The stackable black, purple and peach rings are my favourite!

Yet again my Tony Bianco Frankie wedges makes another appearance!! – I really can’t get enough of them. They’re so comfy and easy to walk in, I’m sure you will be seeing more of them in future posts.

I’m so happy the heat and summer sunshine has kicked in. I have always preferred winter dressing because of all the layers but minimal dressing, both literal and “trend” speaking is so much easier ie. wearing pair of shorts, chucking on a top and you’re out the door!

Last Tuesday, 1/11/11 - it was Melbourne Cup Day where hundreds of race-goers, betters and spectators flocked to Flemington race course and other racing grounds around Australia. Being a public holiday for most metropolitan Victorians, not all states have been granted the god-send that is a day off work. Lucky for me, the company I work for treated us to a day out at Royal Randwick - amazing or what! There was excitement buzzing in the air, including a lot of fascinators, champagne and both thrilling wins and unfortunate losses. Though as the sun kept on shining, so did our smiles and merriment. A great day overall which ended with a delicious pub style meal - creamy angel hair pasta with king prawns to be exact! Yummo! .... Oh, and I'm pleased to inform my feet didn't hurt one bit! Thanks to my new Frankie wedges by Tony Bianco, these babies got me through the day - sans blisters and burning soles. A win in my eyes! ;)

Ever since I cut my hair short, I've been told my new look holds close resemblance to Dora, the little 8 year old explorer. What do you think?

I quite like the outfit, it's comfortable, easy to wear and best of all I get to wear sneakers! Notice my map and backpack too? I know Halloween is meant to be scary but I saw it as an opportunity to dress as something sweet! My attempt in going against tradition and the over-popular nurses, devils and vampire costumes out there. A wonderful day with good company and sweet, sweet food!

I hope everyone is going well! I apologise for the lack of blog updates, things have been quite hectic and overwhelming on my end lately, but I promise you - there are exciting things to come to Your Only Black Swan.

Being A Tourist In My Own City

Do you like my tourist shot?...I've lived in Sydney Australia my whole life and have come to embrace all the Aussie icons like flip-flops, meat pies, Vegemite, NRL, Aussie-slang and accent!. Having been brought up with the "Aussie-way-of-life", I however have not been limited to the single culture but also exposed to many in this multi-cultural society us Aussies live in today. It is a big mixing pot of various nationalities and for what I see it, a privilege to experience, enjoy and learn about the different values, traditions and foods that are shared across the surburbs. Though, when you do happen to visit the tourist hot-spot of Sydney and most especially Circular Quay, everything that is Australian instantly becomes more prominent. Despite having all the main attractions like the Sydney Opera House, Luna Park, Centre Point Tower and the Harbour Bridge all in your one view, you can't deny the buzzing atmosphere, the large crowds, the presence of seagulls and the stunning city-line in which Sydney Harbour has to offer. Whether you're a lifetime Sydney-sider or a tourist, I'm sure you would agree Sydney is one beautiful city no matter how many times you've seen it.

My most recent Sydney experience was just yesterday when my family and I had a funday Sunday out and about in Circular Quay - but it wasn't your average "stroll around and eat an icecream" type of visit - we were literally out and about speed-boating around Sydney Harbour! It was an amazing, thrilling experience and a WET ONE no doubt! The driver (who in fact went to high school with me, funny that!) performed a handful of boat jumps, swerves, skids, twists and 300 degree turns whilst also stopping at exclusive suburbs and nudist beaches. It was a terrific way to see Sydney differently and a lot of fun too. By the end of the ride, all of the passengers including myself were completely drenched due to the backsplashes of the stunts. Thanks to my waterproof camera, I was able to capture some photos and even some footage of the ride. Sunshine, smiles and thrills with the family! Could not have been any more perfect! :)

ANOTHER JUG?

With the weather warming up and weekends looking brighter, I could not ask for a better Saturday in the buzzing eclectic suburb of Surry Hills. The only thing I could ask for, well.... is a never-ending jug of Lychee Sangria that is! It is the ultimate summer drink which got myself, Thu (Original Number), Aprilia (Aprilia Love), Brooke (re:new vintage), Emma (Spin Dizzy Fall), Joelyne (The Sydney Girl) and Jess (Jess Loves Fred) all cheery at The Winery on Crown Street. Having dined upstairs at The Winery before, I was quite excited to dine alfresco in the open air and treat my tastebuds to Whitebait and olives. Other popular dishes on the table was the ever-so-tempting Mac n' Cheese, Cheeseboard and Chicken Salad. Being bloggers, not only do we like all things fashion and style, but I have come to notice the shared enjoyment of photographing food. If there is one thing which will not fail in making me happy, it is food! Cheers to that!

All in all - good times! It's always a pleasure catching up with like-minded individuals and I'm amazed how each of our styles are amplified during meets like this. D.I.Y. SPIRAL AND BRAID BRACELET

I am very excited to bring you this post! With friendship bracelets being such a popular piece of colourful arm parties, I thought I'd share with you a "twist" on the usual flat chevron design! Here I present, the Swirl and Braid Bracelet! Yep, by "twist" - the design literally involves not one, but three individual spiral-like twists. I learned how to make this type of bracelet when I was in primary school and boy oh boy did I revisit old memories while doing this D.I.Y This bracelet is really easy to make and yet quite effective. So let's cut to the chase and begin!....

See! It wasn't that hard was it!? If you don't feel enthusiastic about attaching the crimp ends and lobster clasp, you can always opt for simply tying the loose ends into a knot for closure.

With all good D.I.Y.'s this little baby is certainly addictive! After making my first Swirl and Braid Bracelet, I had to create more! Here are some other designs I made, using different colour combinations as well as my this neat fluro cherry ribbon which gradually changes colour between hot pink, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

What do you think?.... The perfect summer accessory I'll say! If you can't get your hands on any cherry ribbon, you can also use yarn or haberdashery thread, though this would make the spiral and braid design much smaller. See here for an example I made earlier, I think it's quite cute!

Next up, I am looking to experiment with metallic cherry ribbon or even threading on a few beads.

One of my current favourite designs from the store, is the Pearly Dreams Sheer Shirt! As most of you may know by now, my fetish for anything collared is pretty much at it's peak, it was no surprise I was caught jaw-open the moment I saw this baby - collared, embellished, sheer and asymmetrical draping! Oh my!.... Please excuse me while I push my jaw back closed! This delightful number is no doubt fun to wear, with the sleeveless design and sheer drapery it is assured to make heads turn, though the embellished pearl and moon beaded collar adds that unexpected feminine innocence. Teamed up with a bandeau, my trusty denim cut-offs and velvet Dr. Martens - I really don't think summer knows what's coming!

I wasn't lying when I said this shirt is fun to wear. It got me playing with the drapery and loose fitting, I couldn't really stay still! I am sure this piece will be a popular wardrobe pick in the warmer months to come and I look forward to wearing it tucked in, cinched with a belt or even with bright coloured skinny jeans for a full-impact look!

THE SWIRL

To start off the long weekend, I met Aprilia from aprilialove.com for our first blogger meet where we visited Surry Hills Markets and continued our thrifting adventure all the way up Crown Street. Though it was our first meet and greet, our endless conversations were no surprise and it was overly delightful to share with each other our interests, dreams, tastes and oh did I forget to mention... all things blogging! (Ah duhh!) Unaware we'd grow to be great shopping buddies, we followed the hustle and bustle along Crown St and found ourselves stumbling across hidden "high-end" garage shops, colourful terrace houses and a Mexican store (post to come!) full of skull-themed prints, ornaments, statues and Frida Karlo inspired artworks. With the whole Mexican vibe lingering, it influenced our decision to satisfy our appetites with a good feed at Mad Mex, and let me tell you those tacos were pretty good! Afterward, a much needed second opinion was required in the dressing room of American Apparel - and with many "as seen on blogs" outfit examples scattered across the store, it's appropriate to say "bloggers know best!"

With the weather being on the dull side, I saw this as the perfect opportunity to wear my maroon tights from We Love Colors . We Love Colors offer all the colours in the rainbow and if not more! The swirly-wirly jacket I am wearing is from Sgt Sookie which I won in a giveaway. It's amazing texture is made up of pressed strands of wool, featuring yellow/blue-grey thicker yarns pressed in a swirly pattern. As soon as I saw it, it was love at first sight! Sgt Sookie's style is eclectic and unique, having visited markets in Paris, vintage from stores tucked away in alleys in Tokyo and jewellery from the streets of NY. On days like this, all you can do is dream about summer and everything it entails; beaches, bikinis, waves and sand. Pools, sunblock, sunnies and skin. Ice cream, colours, sunsets and friends. Bracelets, lemonade, beach hair and sun. Late nights, piercings, tatts and tanks. Short shorts, flip-flops, maxis and surf. From the early morning sunlight to hot sultry nights, there are so many things the new season will bring. One thing I've been meaning to treat myself to is a new belly ring. HELLO SWANS

It's one of those days when everything feels in place and where it should be. You don't want more or want less. The satisfaction is as close to a warm cup of Campos coffee whilst reading your favourite magazine, or in this case overlooking 1000 ultimate travel experiences. The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of late nights, early mornings and mixed emotions. It's only recently I feel settled, basking in my own relief. Things are indeed looking up and moving forward. Last Sunday, it was the 24th birthday of one of my dearest closest friends and was executed in absolute gluttony and content over all-you-can-eat Brazilian food, sangria and Adriano Zumbo's finest creations. To wind up the day, I was lucky enough to spot not one, but 3-4 black swans. Funnily enough, there were no white swans at all. Unaware, this made me reflect on the "Black Swans" in my lifetime so far, and most certainly what has happened recently. For those who have not come across the "Black Swan Theory" , here it is spelled out:

A "Black Swan" is an event with the following three attributes:

1. The event is a surprise (to the observer).

2. The event has a major impact.

3. After its first recording, the event is rationalized by hindsight, as if it could have been expected.

I can identify a few, but the "Black Swan" that stands out most in terms of importance is my new chapter in my design career and landing a role I only imagined back in my uni days. In nearing the final days of my first chapter, it's times like these you need to reflect and some what try to figure all it out. Or just let it be, be thankful and live in the moment.

HARPER'S BAZAAR | ALEX PERRY | COMMONWEALTH BANK

Last Tuesday I was invited to attend a night of glamour at the Commonwealth Bank Vault in Martin Place. As part of 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty, Harper's Bazaar presented Alex Perry's latest collection titled "Cuban Princess" which included many figure-hugging silhouettes, cinched waists, high necklines and bright pops of colour and sequinning. Set in the Commonwealth Bank's prestigious vault, not only did the high ceilings and marble pillars add to the luxurious ambiance but also the endless supply of Moet champagne and oh-so-tempting d'oeuvres. It was a certainly a night to feel glamourous and be inspired Alex Perry's stunning creations. When I saw the first sparkle of sequins grace the runway, I couldn't help but to smile that I was wearing sequins myself - I hear (and see) they are making a comeback! ;)

With a strong accents of embellished panels and contrast of floral fabrics and textures, we see a celebration of feminity and the classic 1950's female figure.The collection also presents a noticeable nod to colour-blocking, being a leading trend this summer. Oh, and did I happen to mention my heart skipped a beat when I saw the amazing Rachel Rutt walk down in a fully sequined gown.

After the show, I managed to meet her and she was so lovely. In this video of her, she reveals she actually knits a lot during her waiting times and when flying. The dress she is wearing below was in fact completed by her that very day and was the first time she'd worn it. When I found out, I was somewhat starstruck! I think you can tell it in my facial expression hehe.

I also happened to meet the super fun and beautiful Joelyne (The Sydney Girl) , one of the earliest blogs I started reading and who I have only gotten to know via comments, email and Facebook. It was wonderful hanging out with her and talking all things blogging and photography and finding out the answers to all the questions we've been meaning to ask.

Other bloggers I met for the first time were Margaret (Shine By Three), Hannah (Capture The Castle) and Darren (Boymoments). It was so nice to get to know each other and converse face-to-face than behind a computer screen. One of Margaret's giveaway winners Priscilla (pictured below) was a sweetheart and joined us in all the action.

SHOULDER POP

Ditch those layers and reveal some skin because Spring is finally here! With Sydney's weather topping at least 29 degrees across the weekend, I made sure I got my healthy dose of sunshine. Thanks to this chiffon cut out shoulder shirt I received from SUPRÉ, my skin was able to breathe in the increasing heat without comprising style. Cinched at the waist with one of my favourite vintage belts, I helped liven the deep maroon colour with a contrast of turquoise jewellery. The cut out shoulder style has been trending for sometime, with many variations ranging from customised denim chambrays right through to lightweight fabrics and shorter sleeve lengths. I believe this trend has become so popular because it suits many body types and it's such a tasteful exposure of skin for those who don't want to bare all.

Available at SUPRÉ in a multitude of colours - midnight, watermelon and white (gorgeous against a sun-kissed tan), this piece is very versatile and and easy to style with. Plus the sheer quality of the chiffon makes it a tad bit cheeky and can be easily taken to night time glam worn with funky leggings and platform heels. Today, I went to a Brazilian birthday lunch and got a bit carried away with Sangria. Afterwards my friends and I stumbled upon Rozelle Markets and managed to pick up some quality finds I can't wait to share with you. We also paid a visit to Adriano Zumbo's renowned patisserie. Such a wonderful Sunday with great company and good times!

THE FLOATER SCARVES

What do you do with your holiday snaps? Print them out? Make a neat photo album book? Or are you satisfied with just having them up on Facebook?... Perhaps this post shall inspire you to do something different!

Lillie Toogood of GOOD&CO has launched her first range of scarves called The Floater. Each scarf is based on a photograph she had taken on her travels and experiences of different cultures. The photographs are digitally printed on 100% silk, where bold splashes of colour and striking textures catch your eye in the drapery of each scarf. From afar, you probably wouldn't of noticed the images on the scarves but instead identify them as abstract colours and textures. It is here, each Floater scarf undergoes the task of bringing both the wearer and viewer closer to the piece and asking them to imagine the time, place and atmosphere in which the original photo was taken. Questions begin to surface like, what was the weather? Where was the photographer standing? What country or city was this photo taken? ....What else did the photographer see and why was this particular moment captured and not others?For all you photography lovers out there, these scarves are no doubt refreshing and presents a new and innovative medium to communicate visual forms. My favourite out of the collection would have to be Paris By Night, but I also like Brick Lane too. They're all amazing!

Whilst creating this post, I couldn't help but to imagine what one of my favourite photos I took during my trip to Phi Phi would look like. Here is a rough mock-up of it below. Isn't the aqua blue water serene or what! I'll definitely wear that!

BUTTONS AND LACE

Earlier in the week, General Pants had an unbelievable "TOP IT OFF, TAKE UP TO $100 OFF" sale where many trans-seasonal items were AND STILL ARE heavily discounted. (Check it out here if you want to grab a bargain!) Top brands included in the sale are The Cassette Society, Don't Ask Amanda and Alice In The Eve. I myself jumped at the opportunity and bought a few lightweight knits to aid me in this "one-day-spring,next-day-winter" debacle us Sydney-siders have been experiencing. One of the items I picked up is this mottle knit from Subtitled featuring a line of buttons running down the centre on the back. I was immediately lured to it, not only because of it's mottle texture but because of the unusual positioning of the buttons and how it instantly added that "edgy factor". Here I have styled it with a delicate lace skirt, sharp preppy collar, dainty necklace and my chunky Dr. Martens. I have never been a girly girl. Feminine, yes! Tom-boy?....More so. So one thing I like to do is to combine the two different looks and create one that is "unexpected and more inventive". With my style icons being Alexa Chung and Chloë Sevigny, I like to play around, experiment and step outside the box. Quirky and eclectic, I like to mish-mash different textures and even surprise myself in the process.

SUNO RESORT 2012

One striking brand I happened to come across recently is Suno, a New York-based label launched in 2008 founded by Max Osterweis in collaboration with designer Erin Beatty. With strong roots in vintage Kenyan textiles, much of their designs involve vibrant, daring prints and angular cut shapes (which I love) as seen in their Resort 2012 collection. Infused with colourful exotic prints and accents of bright magenta orchid, the collection combines imagery of nostalgic Hawaiian beachscapes and a slight nod to traditional Mexican dress. The backdrop continues to celebrate Hawaiian icons featuring cut-out palm trees, pineapples and hibiscus leis necklaces. Though this collection is designed for “resort wear”, Suno manages to maintain it’s signature look of “pajama dressing” with crisp collared shirts and the inclusion of sleeves, long and short. I myself have my eyes on the shirt shift dress with accordion pleating – the high collar and print is just amazing!

PRIMARY

Being a creative individual, most of the time I choose what to wear based on an initial colour palette I've conjured up rather than a single piece of clothing or statement piece. With the whole colour-blocking trend in motion, I felt this was an appropriate post to share with you all. Though this post is a little different.... No bright pinks, oranges or emerald greens - I am going to back to the basics, being primary colours! You all know them and I'm sure toddlers young as 3 are starting to pick up on the colour trio of red, yellow and blue. So let's re-visit your first ever colour theory lesson and recap what primary colours are all about and why they are in their own right, the raw ingredients of any type of design.

Primary colours are colours that cannot be created through the mixing of other colours. Identified as red, yellow and blue, mixing two primary colors together will create what is called a secondary color. Mixing blue and red creates purple; red and yellow make orange; yellow and blue make green.

Below are a few examples of how primary colours have been used in art, fashion, electronics and interior design. Enjoy - I think we all have to thank Piet Mondrian in taking the leap and marking himself as one of the first ever "colour-blockers"! Ha! ;)

BLUEBERRY

My growing obsession with the colour purple most likely stemmed from my infatuation with Chuck Bass and his affair with purple suits. Or perhaps from the observation that this shade comes to life in velvet or suede form. Guys and girls, please say a warm 'spring' welcome to my new suede booties by Django and Juliette. The suede is butter soft and the chunky square heel is super comfortable for everyday wear. Here I have paired it with a sheer shirt and cropped knit combo inspired by Cher from Clueless and blazer to match. I am very much looking forward to teaming up these purple booties with bright, contrasting coloured socks worn with cuffed chinos and a loose shirt. Nevertheless, I now regard these as my "prancer, dancer shoes" knowing the next time I'll be prancing in them will only be a hop, skip and a jump away! ;)

I think this post sums up my adoration for all things Navajo. I really can't stay away. So much that my parents brought me home a 'replica' souvenir of a Native American medicine bag from their trip to Keystone, South Dakota. VELVET CRUSH

I am a loud and proud fan of velvet, so much I was head-over-heels when I stumbled upon these incredible shimmery blue velvet Dr. Martens on eBay. I have not seen anything like it! Velvet in Dr. Martens form - mind-blowing really. I do however, recall these black, velvet Dr. Martens on Style Scrapbook and this red pair in which I assume are part of the same line. You can say my heart skipped a beat when I saw it came in blue though. In the description and photos, the blue velvet has an emerald green shimmer when caught in the light - too cool for school! Immediately I dashed for my wallet and decided to treat my standard black Docs to new, more eccentric friends. I have a feeling I will be on the edge of my seat until they come knocking at my door. Though, to keep me sane until they arrive, I have styled a head-to-toe like you normally do ;)

I kind of died a little when I stumbled across this editorial - I'd never imagined combining both 90s grunge dressing and the whole Navajo trend together. Pure brilliance really!

On a different note, who else agrees that Teen Vogue features more lively, vibrant and emotive shoots than the standard Vogue?.... I understand that the magazine targets a younger demographic, though I feel the pages of Teen are far more engaging and enjoyable to look at. Thoughts anyone....?? Which do you prefer, Teen Vogue or Vogue??

CIRCULAR FLARE HEM SKIRT

I have always been a ‘skirt girl’ and yet to mention – a Supre chick at heart. Having acquired my first retail job there when I was 16 years old, I have first-hand experienced the culture and fun, lively shopping experience the brand and store has to offer. With their focus of bringing a wide range of affordable, on-trend pieces – you really can’t walk out of the store empty handed.

Thanks to the awesome Steph Kramer who is also the Graphic Designer for Supre (do I hear a hooray from designers alike?), I recently received this wonderful circular flare hem skirt which is becoming quite a trend here in Australia and overseas. This skirt is very versatile and can be easily styled to create many different looks. The A-line, flowy, circular cut is flirty and feminine, though classic and timeless. Worn during summer and right through to winter, the simple addition of tights or knee highs (or both combined) will instantly take this wardrobe-staple from season to season. Here, I have worn it with my favourite polka dot tights from Voodoo, preppy blazer and gingham button-up for that Gossip Girl, preppy look. One could say, I'm exuding "Blair flair" ?? hehehe

It is super comfortable and you can't help but feel free-spirited and walk with a spring in your step. GIRL IN THE RED COAT

Some spontaneous snaps taken by Thu as we were walking through the back alley ways of Newtown. The late afternoon sun filtered through the trees and the townhouse line streets were blissfully quiet.

I picked up this vintage, 60s inspired red coat from the Red Cross Store on King Street. Funny that, red from red! It is one of my favourite pieces that I purchased from the store and has these amazing letter "M" buttons on the front! I am guessing "M" for "mod"?! .... I'll settle for that ;)

FONDUE STORIES

This day last weekend, I met up with Brooke (re:new vintage), Emma (Spin Dizzy Fall) and my neighbour and blogging buddy Thu (Original Number) for a chocolate overload at Max Brenner in Newtown. Whenever I think of Max Brenner, I immediately think of the chocolate river in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Even though there weren't any little orange men or trees and flowers made out of candy, there were in fact pipes that ran along the ceiling with 100% pure chocolate running inside! Crazy! After much ummm-ing and ahhh-ing over the menu, we decided the fondue would be our best bet! And boy oh boy was it good! Mmmmm!

After treating our tastebuds to 100% pure chocolate (both milk and the "heavy" dark), our sugar rush did not end there as we whipped out our cameras and started snapping like the blogger-thing-to-do.

Oh how I wish there was a Max Brenner on each and every block! As Cadbury would say "wouldn't it be niceeee..." ?! (Did not mean to include a range of chocolate references all in one sentence hehe)

NAVAJO SUN

I instantly feel like I should be somewhere roaming the American plains whenever I wear this Navajo-inspired throw-over. It's funny how the whole Navajo/aztec/native trend has exploded across all fields of fashion, furniture and jewellery design. I really don't think it will be disappearing anytime soon!

I thrifted this piece during one of my thrifting adventures at Broadway Salvos. For those who live in Sydney, this op-shop is definitely worth stopping by. You may have to sift threw all the racks but that's what makes it fun. Amongst the categorised racks, I came across this delightful number. It is very light and the ideal throw-on, perfect for summer teamed with frayed shorts and a bikini like Ivy Sullivan from 90210. You may also notice my fringe bag looks very similar to this purple one I showcased earlier - priced at only $10, it would of been silly to pass up on this natural coloured one! ;)

These photos were taken over the weekend right before my friends and I headed out to lunch for some chocolate thick shakes and marinara pizza. The sun was out and yet again Mother Nature was teasing us with spring-like weather. All I wanted to do was to bask in the sun and soak up the rays.

Just happened to stumble upon these amazing hand-made God's Eye wall hangings! When I was a little girl, I used to collect paddle pop sticks and wind different coloured yarn around them - of course, my creations were far from these awe-inspiring beauties. These Ojos de Dios (commonly known as God's Eye) are made by weaver Jay Mohler who has a store on Etsy definitely worth checking out. There are so many enticing designs, the only difficultly is choosing which one is your favourite!

TWEED AND TASSELS

I haven't shared with you an outfit post in quite a while, so I'm very pleased to return back to the blogosphere with this tweed and tassel number I picked up at Glebe Markets. Oh what did I say?.... Glebe Markets... AGAIN??!!! It's starting to sound like I go there every weekend, but in fact I only go there every once in a while but manage to pick up quite a few finds which only end up on my blog when time and outfit opportunities allow.

So here we go, behold this 80s inspired blazer that I got for ONLY $10!! I was quite hesitant at first, but as soon as I tried it on, the fit was so flattering I just had to get it. I love the strong, structured shoulders and most especially the triangle patches on each sleeve, finished with tassels. It's probably my most "funky" jacket I have so far. However, I do believe it is one of those pieces you either love or hate, clearly for me I'm on the "love" side but I would like to get your thoughts on it?! ... like, love or yuk? I'm open to all sorts of comments so please do let me know. I wouldn't mind at all.

Being tweed, I find this blazer to be a great trans-seasonal piece of clothing. It is an easy "throw-on and walk out the door" type jacket and with the weather recently changing from winter to spring in a heartbeat, you can't never be more prepared. Just last week, the weather graced us Sydney-siders with 4 consecutive days of spring-like sunshine and clear skies. It was a massive tease of what future spring has coming for us. Though, I will personally miss the opportunity of being more inventive when dressing for winter, layering and all.

ps. I got my hair cut even shorter. It's been my 3rd hair cut since my big chop! Crazy :S

UP NORTH WHERE IT'S GOLD

As you may have read or heard, I flew up to the Gold Coast over the weekend. It was a short though pleasant (minus my god awful unexpected fever) trip with Andrew's family, where the weather was a hundred times nicer than the dull, grey and rainy days we've had down here in Sydney. I brought my SLR along with me but managed to only snap landscape photos - sorry no outfit photos! A blogger sin! Can you ever forgive me?!... hehe I guess it was one of those moments I'd rather indulge in my surroundings and enjoy my company than painstakingly stress over taking outfit shots for "blog post sake". I however lived in leggings and knits during the time I was there, opting for comfort over style as my key approach. With our holiday house only metres away from Palm Beach, I made sure I caught the sun rising over the ocean and sneaked out early one morning. Tis' was a beautiful morning indeed.

Still been feeling a bit run down. Hopefully the remainder of this week flies by so I can relax and spend all day in bed catching up on 90210

LETTER A

This has got to be one of the most softest and cuddliest knits I've thrifted! It has mohair-like yarn, red striped accents and a big letter "A" on the front! I could not believe my eyes when I saw it still hanging up for grabs at my local St Vinnies. As they say - A is Apple, B is Ball, C is Caterpilla and D is for (well in this case) "DANG!" hehehe

Being a statement jumper, it is surprisingly quite easy to style and match clothes with. I pretty much wore it all last weekend - Friday to Sunday in fact! This look I went for the "comfort over style" approach pairing it up with leather-look paneled leggings (Dotti), Chelsea boots (Marais USA via Solestruck) and an old faux fur vest I picked up from Supre years ago that I always throw on for extra warmth on cooler days. My boyfriend Andy commented saying I look like I am going skiiing wearing this jumper... when I now look at these photos, the words "ski bunny" do come to mind! (sans skis and all the white snow of course) I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. Ha! You guys can decide...

Since spotting a knitted cable link scarf at the last Finders Keepers Markets, I've been on the hunt for the perfect kind. After much looking around, the idea of a potential DIY project is most likely on the cards. I can always start knitting for next winter right?... Now that's what you call an early start!

Mind you, I spend a lot of time browsing around on Etsy. It's a trap that site! Before you know it, so much time has already passed and your hunger for more handmade goods has grown even more!

ON THE FRINGE

There are those certain details that make any out-of-the-ordinary piece "extra-ordinary". For example, this amazing velvet fringed top and suede fringed bag to match! You may recall this velvet fringed number from my past post, that I purchased as a special birthday pressie to myself from Red Mera Vintage. I have worn it on numerous occasions but haven't had the chance to share a styled look of it on here. In the past I have teamed it up with tie-dye jeans (really exuding that hippie vibe) and layered with a fur vest. Here I have paired it up with these Johnny Guitar shorts from Somedays Lovin' you may have also seen before.

Overall this look is very whimsical, hippie and eclectic with a considerable amount of fringing. If does look I was "over-doing it" with the fringing, I just could not help myself - as I picked up this bag for a mere $10 at Glebe Markets. (unbelievable!) It's completely brand new, I had to pinch myself at the fact I stumbled upon a store that was selling all their items for $10. That just doesn't happen! haha

After trying to find a gap in our busy schedules, we managed to catch up over the weekend and talk all things blogging, internships, fashion and shoes. Thu is studying fashion at the newly opened Fashion Institute and is interning at Madison Magazine and well as Market HQ, which is an incredible opportunity in itself! Go Thu!!

In the photo above is a raw rose quartz gemstone I received from her, which I reworked and turned into a pendant using wire. I am quite happy with the result and even continued to do the same with other raw amethyst rocks I had lying around. What do you guys think? ....

Here are some shots of Thu and myself. Isn't her bowler style hat cute or what?! There was a load of dandelions scattered across the grass it was inevitable that one of us would sooner or later pick one up and give it a blow hehe
